Sneakers for the Heat: What Actually Works in Vietnam

6 min read · Kiri Sneakers Outlet, Nha Trang

Nha Trang is wonderful, but it has a temper: heat above thirty, humidity around eighty per cent, and sudden tropical downpours. Sneakers that served you perfectly at home can turn into a personal sauna here. Here's what genuinely works in this climate — tested on our own feet.

The upper material decides everything

Soles: mind the tread

After rain, the promenade tiles and hotel marble floors become an ice rink. Look for soles with pronounced tread and softer rubber. Flat, smooth soles like classic tennis silhouettes slip noticeably more on wet tile.

Socks: unexpectedly important

Cotton socks in the tropics get soaked and cause blisters. Thin synthetic sports socks with flat seams wick moisture away and dramatically reduce rubbing. Sounds boring, works brilliantly.

Sizing in hot weather

In a hot climate feet swell more than usual, especially if you walk a lot. Try shoes on in the afternoon and leave 7–10 mm of room — the full method is in our size guide.

Rainy season: small tricks

  1. Keep a second pair and rotate: shoes need 24 hours to dry out from the inside.
  2. Never dry sneakers in the sun or with a hairdryer — glue and materials won't forgive it. Pull out the insoles, stuff the pair with paper and leave it in the shade under a fan.
  3. A water-repellent spray before rainy season takes 5 minutes and saves more than one pair.

The bottom line: the ideal pair for Nha Trang

Mesh or knitted upper, grippy sole, light or medium colours (dark ones heat up in the sun) and the right size with room to spare. You can try all of this on at our store: come by — we'll tell you honestly which pair will survive a Vietnamese summer and which won't.
